Adjunct — A part-time professor. Colleges and universities are supposed to offer the majority of their courses from full-time instructors, but many schools cheat. Adjuncts get paid between 18 and 30 % of what full-timers do. In many cases adjuncts teaching more classes than do full-timers.
Felix — My best friend. We met as Master’s students. Today he works in the administration of a major research university.
Mikey — Fellow graduate student. Not only a budding scholar, but also a professional ball-handler.
Professor Samsara — Professor from my Master’s program who had been an important scholar in the 60’s and 70’s. After taking up illicit drugs he divorced the Dean and married a stripper.
